Injuries at sea, or on any body of navigable water with access to the sea, or in maritime work environments are governed by a complex set of overlapping maritime regulations and laws. Peter Commette and his staff at the law firm of Peter M. Commette, P.A. have been helping those injured in a marine environment and those maritime workers injured at sea, on docks and on shore for more than 25 years.

Peter Commette: My Story and Why I Love Admiralty Law

I grew up on the water, raced boats, built boats, and was a sailmaker before going to law school. My father was a maritime attorney in New York City for over 50 years. I clerked for him beginning in high school. I am delighted that one of my firm’s focuses is on handling admiralty and maritime cases for over 25 years. We have handled cases pertaining to accidents, injuries, and other situations involving seamen and non-seamen on cruise ships, yachts, and other watercraft. We have handled the following types of maritime cases:

  • Passenger claims against cruise lines/ships or excursions for injury or wrongful death
  • Seamen/crew claims for injury or wrongful death
  • Cruise ship assault/sexual assault
  • Recreational boating injuries or wrongful death, including those involving jet skis and waverunners
  • Towing and salvage issues
  • Boat and yacht construction and warranty claims
  • Insurance coverage issues
  • Vessel damage and losses due to sinking, fire, grounding, collisions, allisions, and navigation errors
  • Charter issues

I pride myself on not being a high volume lawyer. By remaining selective about the number and types of cases which I accept, my firm is able to devote the proper time and attention necessary to effectively represent each client. I am personally involved with my clients’ cases, in the sense that I pursue resolutions that incorporate their goals in a cost-efficient and altogether effective manner.

At the Law Offices of Peter M. Commette, P.A., my staff and I utilize aggressive tactics and vast resources to obtain materials that are essential to my clients’ cases. We are dedicated to maximizing our efforts during the discovery process to obtain sophisticated information that may be needed throughout the course of your case.

“Peter and staff, not only were we up the creek without a paddle, we also had a hole in our canoe. Without you, we’d have been sunk. Thanks. You did a wonderful (job) that made him (the defendant boat operator) look not so good.”
